Khor Virap, Noravank and Jermuk
Khor Virap Monastery is located in the Ararat Marz of the Republic of Armenia, on the left bank of the Araks River. It is considered one of the sacred shrines and a place of pilgrimage for Armenians. The history of Khor Virap is closely related to the process of adopting Christianity as the state religion in Armenia.
Noravank was a major cultural, educational and writing center of the time, closely connected with such spiritual and educational centers as Gladzor University, Tatev Monastery. However, in addition to the Gladzor University headed by Yesai Nchetsu, there was also a high-type school in Upper Noravank, headed by Davit Rabunapet.
Both Gladzor and Verin Noravank were not only educational, but also large centers of writing, where dozens of manuscripts were written and illustrated.
Jermuk is located in the mountains of Vayots Dzor, on a plateau divided by the beautiful gorge of the Arpa River. The city is surrounded by dense forests and is famous for its hot springs and mineral waters. The name of the city itself means "geyser".
